Learning Curves Are Never Straightforward

I came back from my vacate-it-all and found that my husband and daughter did just fine without me. They prepared and ate food, got wherever they were supposed to go, and found ways to enjoy each others company --- all without my meddling. Yay! Now several weeks have passed and I haven't yet figured out how to take good care of myself while I'm around my family members. I stay up too late, don't get enough exercise, and eat food that I don't really want. Clearly, I need to carve out time for myself differently.

The garden grows with a mind of its own and plenty of insects have their own jobs to do too.
  • Plants that are doing okay: tomatoes, kale, chard, beets, broccoli, zucchini, strawberries, arugula (perennial), basil bought at Trader Joes.
  • Plants I'm not sure about yet: carrots, radishes, beets, the fruit trees are surviving; we won't know probably until at least next year if they do well. Potatoes are hard to figure out; next year, I'll plant a whole lot of them..
  • Plants that are failing: cucumbers, spinach, cilantro, peas, kohlrabi, corn. Aphids are enjoying my broccoli and kale. They completely devoured the cauliflower. I guess I need to spend some time getting rid of them with soapy water. Yuck.
