It's been really cold outside lately. This morning it was just 39º. Brrr. I never knew people could grow vegies in the wintertime here in Northern California. But over the last week, I've planted quite a few greens, snap peas and radishes. The artichokes will go in soon, along with the celery. Even before the soil settled, slugs have already found their way to the tender leaves. I don't know where they hide during the days, so I'm hoping to find them by flashlight this evening. If I don't remove them, I'll have very little to show for all the work I've already put in.
Aside from this little disappointment, I'm actually feeling pretty confident about how much I've learned about growing stuff. One thing I'm doing is making careful maps of the planting beds so I can keep track of how much space different plants need and which crops I'm planting, etc. This way I can refer to it for next season and next year.
